California Native Sod
Native grasses are adapted to our seasonally dry California
climate. California Native Sod grown by our grower partner Delta
Bluegrass has been installed in many urban landscapes, parks, edges
of golf courses and streetscapes. Native Preservation Mix,
Biofiltration Sod and Delta Grassland Mix Sod are available for
planting throughout the year.
We recommend installing Native Bentgrass Sod and the Native Mow
Free Sod as a lawn alternative in late Fall. This will allow these
cool season native grasses to better establish in the cooler,
wetter, winter weather.
Once established, all blends will require approximately 50% less
water than traditional sod varieties. All blends available on
biodegradable netting.

Native Bentgrass™, Agostis pallens
Agrostis pallens is a cool-season California
native bentgrass, with a uniform growing habit, medium texture, and
deep green color. Native bentgrass thrives in full sun, or partial
shade and will tolerate light foot traffic, with good recovery due
to spreading rhizomes. Delta Bluegrass' own irrigation trials
indicate that Native Bentgrass requires about half the water (50 %
ET) of a traditional cool-season grass to keep the lawn green
throughout the year.
-
Native Mow Free™, A blend of California
native fescue grasses that can be maintained as a turf lawn, or
left unmowed to create a meadow like appearance.
-
Biofiltration Sod™, A combination of dryland
and wetland species that can tolerate drought conditions and
limited amounts of standing water. Excellent stabilization and
immediate erosion control.
