Plants Since 1975

seeding specifications are well known to us. We get a lot of feedback
that uniquely qualifies us to give cultural information you can use successfully.
We can support of your goal of successful restoration as a consultant

- The planner can choose items based on known or suspected ecologic
forms, picking a source that fits the needs of the project from our
large inventory of collection site identified plant seeds. Source Identified
Certification done by an independent agency (California Crop Improvement
Association) assures agency and planners of the genetic integrity of
the selected species.
- We can act as sub-contractor with responsibility of performing under
your pre-defined Scope of Work, providing project personnel with expertise
in native plant species identification, seed collecting, cleaning and
testing, proper storage, inventory control and reporting. Upon contract
completion, we can provide recommendations for further maintenance needs
or subsequent collection efforts.
- We can perform any combinations of the following services:
Site Survey
Locate stands of harvestable plants within a defined
zone, locate landowners, obtain permits and verify the identification
of the species required. This stand assessment helps to ascertain the
potential yield, the date to harvest, and the number and size of collection
crews
Seed Increasing
Grow important ecotypes to obtain enough seed to
complete the demands of the project.
Seed cleaning
Field material of species collected is allowed to
"after ripen" and/or dry on tarps. After drying, the material
is processed by hand or mechanically depending on lot size. The rough
screened seed is then re-conditioned as required for each species utilizing
our state of the art seed-conditioning facility in accordance with industry
standards. Each lot given a lot number and, after cleaning the lots are
weighed and inspected for uniformity.
Testing
The lot is sampled in accordance with the California Seed
Law sampling directions and sent to a certified Seed Testing Laboratory
for testing. Seed testing and re-testing is done as necessary to establish
purity and germination percent for the seed.
Storage
All clean and dry seed is organized in our warehouse storage
facility. Special storage requirements can be utilize if needed.
Priming
Appropriate treatments for dormant seeded types are available.
When project conditions warrant their use, these treatments can be applied
to break both external and internal dormancy.
Reporting
Specific reports as required by the project can be provided.
